Essential Functions: 

  • Establish and maintain APP transition-to-practice programs & APP fellowships.

General Summary:

Principal Duties and Job Responsibilities:

General Summary:

The APP under the supervision and direction of the Physician and within the credentialing standards of the Hospital (other duties as assigned):

  • Obtain patient health histories and complete physical examinations and documents findings
  • Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, explaining the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, patient's family, staff and healthcare learners.
  • Formulates and implements a treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the designated primary supervising physician and/or attending back-up physician(s) and documents as necessary
  • Assesses patients for changes in status and institutes appropriate interventions, including initiation of necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient.
  • Procedures performed but not limited to: inserts and manages arterial catheters, central venous catheters, and other procedures commensurate with an ICU environment, CPR; airway management including bag and mask ventilation, endotracheal intubation and extubation, repositioning endotracheal tubes; and defibrillation
  • Directing administration of life supporting drugs according to established protocols

• Call –alternating weekly assignment Friday to Friday—call changes over at 6am Fridays; paired with a physician; current call schedule is every third week

Knowledge and Skills Required:

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, patients, parents and hospital medical staff

• Desire to become part of a multi-disciplinary thoracic surgery program

• Must be able to work a flexible schedule as evening and weekend on-call/rounding will be required

• Candidate must be able to successfully pass a third-party background check and pre-employment drug screen

Required Education/Experience:

• Master’s degree in Nurse Practitioner Studies or Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited College or University

• Experience in Adult Thoracic Surgery, preferred

• Thoracic Surgical Assist, first assistant certification

Licensure, Certification, and Registration:

• Current, valid Florida ARNP or PA license (or eligible)
