This position is based in Palm Coast near the Atlantic coastal line of Florida. This practice is comprised of several subspecialized Orthopedic surgeons at multiple campuses providing a connected system of care through Flagler and Volusia counties. AdventHealth for Children is seeking a dynamic, energetic Pediatric Cardiac Surgery leader to join our team based at the Walt Disney Pavilion (website) in Orlando, Florida.  The new Medical Director would partner with another surgeon and help to continue development of our vibrant, comprehensive pediatric open-heart program in coordination with one of the largest hospital networks in the country.  The new surgeon would work collaboratively with our dedicated peds cardiology and peds cardiac ICU teams.  

We have a network of 30 hospitals in the state with an extensive outreach system as well.  This includes multiple outpatient locations with a multidisciplinary presence.   We deliver over 20,000 babies per year throughout our system.  

Requirements of the position:  

  • Senior level surgeon experience is preferred.
  • Diplomate of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
  • Subspecialty certification in Congenital Heart Surgery through the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
  • Documented success as an independent pediatric cardiac surgeon in all domains of clinical pediatric cardiac surgery including complex neonatal cardiac surgery and surgery for adults with congenital heart disease. Significant interest and capability in pre and post-operative care.
  • Demonstrable skills in surgical judgment, management and decision-making. 
  • Experience in cardiac transplant is desirable.

The Walt Disney Pavilion at AdventHealth for Children is looking for an exceptional and dynamic, fellowship-trained pediatric neurosurgeon to join our program in Orlando, Florida. Ideal candidate would have several years of experience as well as specific interests in brain tumors and craniofacial surgery, which will be in collaboration with our new, dedicated pediatric neuro oncologist and a plastics craniofacial surgeon respectively.

Our program is led by our Chief of our newly reorganized division of pediatric neurosurgery, Dr. Jim Baumgartner. Our team includes support of three PA's who provide care on both the inpatient and outpatient settings.

The hospital has eight dedicated neurosurgical operating suites including a 3T intraoperative MRI and a 64 slice intraoperative CT. As part of AdventHealth for Children, we have a dedicated 8 bed epilepsy monitoring unit. Diagnostic facility includes a state-of-art 3T MRIs, PET, SPECT, MEG center, and Gamma Knife. We also have Monteris LITT and InSightec ExAblate focused ultrasound.

The physician would work in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team including pharmacology, psychology, pediatric neurology, pediatric radiology and pediatric epilepsy. The goal is to become a leading best practice model that is research based, data driven and led by experts. We are the longest continual member of COG in the Central Florida community.

Our surgical epilepsy program is the second busiest program in the nation and that we have been number one in volume in Florida for 10 straight years. One the medical side, our pediatric neurology and epilepsy team is also continuing to expand as we provide care for patients from around the country in our Level IV program.

The candidate will be an active member of our thoracic surgery service line across central Florida division. The candidate will also have an affiliation with Cancer Institute, participating in clinical trials, tumor board and educational activities.  Practice includes all aspects of thoracic surgery (not including lung transplant).  

Our highly trained and skilled surgeons care for patients with benign and malignant diseases of the lungs, chest wall, pleural space, and mediastinum. The practice offers a full spectrum of endoscopic procedures, including newly acquired Auris Monarch Robotic Assisted Bronchoscopy of the lungs and endoscopic procedures of the esophagus, as well as dilation and stenting procedures. Minimally invasive surgical approaches are used in the treatment of both benign and malignant chest pathology. The candidate will be committed to the expansion of our malignant foregut program within the scope of our multidisciplinary team.

AdventHealth Orlando, Florida is looking for a dynamic and energetic lung transplant surgeon with previous leadership experience (greater than two years preferred) to lead our program. The surgeon will work with our currently experienced and established pulmonology transplant medical/care team to lead our high quality and highly sustainable lung transplant program.  We have a full comprehensive Transplant Institute that includes both thoracic and abdominal transplant teams.  Our team performs over 50 hearts, 20 lungs, and 30-50 VAD’s per year with multi organ transplant capability.   

The AdventHealth Transplant Institute is located at AdventHealth Orlando, Florida just outside downtown Orlando close to the charming Winter Park community.  AdventHealth Orlando campus opened (in September 2020) a state of-the-art 32 bed critical care and ECMO unit dedicated to the cardio thoracic transplant service.  AdventHealth has a hospital-based organ procurement organization (our legacy is a top performing OPO in the United States).

Transplant Surgeon Requirements:

  • Board certification by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery
  • Thoracic transplant fellowship training
  • Comprehensive clinical experience in large volume program with advanced cardiac surgery, heart and lung procurement, acute shock, heart failure and mechanical circulatory support
  • Candidates can be general thoracic surgery with experience in lung transplant, general cardiac, or established expertise with lung transplant and shock.

Physician would have responsibility to cover inpatient urology consults from the floors and the emergency department.  The surgeon would also have responsibility for some bedside procedures including cystoscopies.  This opportunity works in collaboration and partnership with our traditional, clinic based urologists. 

Part of a subsection of AdventHealth Medical Group Urology, this opportunity includes APP support.  A balanced monthly schedule would include 15 day shifts.  A competitive base salary, strong benefits package, and a collegial cross-coverage team are just some of the attractive aspects of this opportunity.
