Duties and Responsibilities: 

The APP would be expected to complete the following under physician direction and within the credentialing standards of the Hospital: 

  • Assess and manage ICU patients with complex medical problems.
  • Required Procedural skills: arterial catheters, central venous catheters, temporary hemodialysis catheter. All other procedures are optional and not required.
  • Required experience in management of complex medical, surgical, neurosurgical and cardiovascular ICU patients.
  • Required basic understanding of mechanical ventilation including non-invasive ventilation.
  • Participate in daily multidisciplinary round with the ICU team.

Schedule Details:

  • Ability to provide in-hospital coverage on a rotating shift basis. 
  • 14 (12-hour) shifts required per month
  • Includes days and nights

Experience and Requirements:

  • Experience as an APRN or PA in Critical Care, that are willing to work in all three units
  • Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies or Nursing with Acute Care Certification (Required)
  • Board Certification through NCCPA, ANCC or AACN
  • Experience with mechanical circulatory support (ECMO, Impella and IABP) preferred, but not required.
  • BLS, ACLS, CALS, FCCS, certifications or eligible

Location: Tampa, FL - Specialty: Critical Care

Basic Function

The Fellowship Program Director, in accordance with the specific accreditation body, has responsibility and accountability for the operation of the program, including but not limited to:

  • Curriculum and evaluation
  • The learning environment within the program
  • Faculty as teachers, coaches, mentors, advisors and role models
  • Supervision of residents (i.e. duty hours, work environment, and work intensity)
  • Program management (i.e. program evaluation and improvement, communications, accreditation as applicable, program resources).
  • Resident/Fellow well-being.
  • Oversight of scholarly activities

The Fellowship Program Director reports to the Sponsoring Institution’s Chief Academic Officer/Designated Institutional Official (DIO) for all duties in regard to the operation of the fellowship program. Adherence to AdventHealth and to regulatory bodies that impose requirements on the fellowship program is also the responsibility of the Program Director. Fellowship program tasks may be delegated, but the Program Director is ultimately responsible for the program, and for the timely and accurate completion of all required tasks.

Program Director Qualifications

  1. Be duly licensed to practice medicine in the State of Florida and maintain a state and federal authorization to prescribe, dispense, and administer prescription drugs.
  2. Demonstrate ongoing clinical activity.
  3. Be eligible to participate as a provider in the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
  4. Be an active member in good standing of the AdventHealth Medical Staff with all privileges and responsibilities accorded such status.
  5. Hold current certification in relevant specialty by ABMS or AOA.
  6. Have at least three (3) years of relevant, specialty specific, documented educational and/or administrative experience.

Major Responsibilities

  2. Fellowship Curriculum and Evaluation
  3. Development of Learning Environment
  4. Faculty Oversight
  5. Supervision of Residents and Fellows

Educational Requirement

Program Director must be a licensed and practicing physician in the area of the program, unless the program requirements state otherwise.

FTE Delineation

The Program Director will be allocated a minimum of salary support for administration of the Fellow program based on accrediting body requirements.  Adjustments to the FTE will be determined by accrediting body requirements, number of residents, and the complexity of the program.  All FTE determinations are approved/denied by the CAO/DIO.

Conference Time

Program Directors will be approved to attend one educational conference per year that is related to the Fellowship program director role.  Additional educational conference requests will be addressed on a case by case basis.

Annual Evaluation

Program Director will be evaluated by the CAO/DIO on an annual basis. The performance evaluation will be presented to the Executive Committee by the CAO/DIO.

AdventHealth Medical Group Critical Care at Central Florida is looking for a dynamic physician to be a part of our expanding critical care team. This position would be focused as part of a multi-disciplinary team, in our Cardiovascular ICU at our AdventHealth Orlando campus also known as our Advanced Cardiac Surgical Unit. 

  • Physicians will have responsibility to cover in the new, state of the art, 32 bed CVICU 
  • Collaborate with experienced and established intensivists, cardiology and pulmonology transplant medical/care team to help continue to grow and establish a high quality and highly sustainable Cardiovascular, Heart & Lung Transplant Critical Care program. 
  • Our team performs over 35-50 hearts, 15-20 lungs, and 30-50 VAD’s per year with multi organ transplant capability 
  • Recognized as a Platinum ECMO Center and considered one of busiest centers in the Unites States 
  • Patient mix includes heart and lung transplants, mechanical assist devices, VV/VA ECMO 
  • Robust GME and ACGME programs in Orlando with Medical Students, Residents and Fellows on site 
  • Full Time schedule would consist of 14 shifts per month
  • $50,000 signing bonus!
