Responsibilities of the new physician will include: growing into high volume outpatient clinics with a wide variety of patients from age 0-18 and inpatient coverage in equal rotation with other physician group members including APP support. It is also possible to develop a subspecialty niche depending on the physician's interests. Airway reconstruction surgery, a hearing loss program, and/or a cochlear implant program are all strong potential areas of development here given a physician's defined interest.

AdventHealth is searching for a dynamic, hard-working, experienced, board certified physiatrist to serve as Medical Director for inpatient physical medicine and rehabilitation. This physician leader would have clinical duties at AdventHealth Winter Park as well as overseeing the consult service at AdventHealth Orlando.   The Winter Park location houses our beautiful new 60 bed inpatient rehab unit.  Director role will be 60% clinical and 40% administrative time.

Work with our existing, highly experienced physiatrists and a terrific support team of neuropsychologists, therapists, skilled nurses, and dietitians. A full range of medical and surgical specialists also provide care for our patients on this unit. 

In late 2019, we moved to a brand new, dedicated unit at Winter Park Memorial Hospital with capacity of 60 beds.  Our units currently hold specialty certifications in Amputee, Stroke and Brain Injury. The new physician would work alongside three other physicians as we expand our team even further in the upcoming years.  Patient mix includes majority of cases in stroke and brain injury as well as some ortho and spinal cord injuries.

General Summary:

The PA, under the supervision of the Physician who acts as the collaborative practitioner, is responsible for:

• Performs physical examinations of patients, evaluation and treatment of injuries or illnesses related to Head and Neck Surgery and Neurotology in the clinic and hospital setting

• Surgical first assist in OR, Rounding in the hospital, medical management in the clinic

• Performing scope related procedures, incision and drainage, suturing

• Conditions managed and surgically treated include but are not limited to: Thyroid / parathyroid / parotid conditions requiring surgery, head and neck cancer, swallowing and vocal cord disorders, and general ENT hospital consultations excluding facial trauma.

• Procedures expected in hospital setting: Anterior and posterior nasal packing and cautery of anterior nasal septum, Laryngeal and nasal endoscopy, Removal of foreign objects from the ear and nose, Incision and drainage of peritonsillar abscess, Obtaining and preparation of skin grafts or local flaps, Strap, cast, splint sprains and bones of the upper and lower extremities in conjunction with flap harvest, change tracheostomy tubes, closed reduction of nasal fracture.

• Advanced procedures with numeric requirement: Endotracheal intubation and myringotomy with/without tube insertion under local anesthesia.

• Monitors the patient’s course of treatment and makes appropriate referral to either a physician or specialist, as needed

• Collaborates with physician, supervisor and staff as necessary to provide quality care to patients and support to staff

• Displays a caring and professional attitude at all time as well as maintaining personal and professional growth

Knowledge and Skills Required:

• Surgical first assist experience preferred

• Experience in a surgical practice or ENT preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate

Neuro Critical Care – PA or APRN

AdventHealth Orlando is seeking an experienced NeuroICU Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our expanding critical care team. The APP would be based out of AdventHealth Orlando, which has approximately 165 critical care beds. Our Neuro Critical Care unit is currently 28 beds. Our group is currently looking to continue to grow its comprehensive and successful 24/7 closed ICU model.

The APP would serve as a member of the Neurocritical Care team by assisting in management of critically ill patients at AdventHealth. The PA/APRN applies specialized skills and knowledge related to Neuro ICU settings in which they practice, contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and consulting at AdventHealth. 

General Summary: Under physician direction and within the credentialing standards of the Hospital, the APP will assist with:

  • Providing direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients with multi-system failure, utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards under the supervision of the patient’s physician
  • Obtain patient health histories and complete physical examinations and document findings in accordance with hospital requirements
  • Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, explaining the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, patient's family, staff and healthcare learners
  • Perform CPR; airway management including bag and mask ventilation, endotracheal intubation and extubation; directing administration of life supporting drugs, and defibrillation
  • Insert and manage arterial catheters, central venous catheters and other procedures commensurate with an ICU environment
  • Interface patients with monitoring and instrumentation equipment and directs and educates others in performing the same functions
  • Perform admissions to Neuro ICU during night shifts and consultations to Neuro-Intermediate Unit during day shifts
  • Formulate and implement a treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the designated primary supervising physician and/or attending back-up physician(s) and documents in medical records and appropriate narrative summaries
  • Assess patients for changes in status and institutes appropriate interventions, including initiation of necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient
  • Participate and assist with the pre-, peri-, and postoperative management of the patients admitted to the ICU

Schedule Details

  • All Inpatient - 14 (12-hour) shifts per month
  • Extra shifts available with differential
  • Night shifts include differential pay
  • Days and nights required, 7AM to 7PM, or 7PM to 7AM.
  • No call
  • Perform admissions to Neuro ICU during night shifts and Neuro-Intermediate Unit during day shifts. The APP will mostly be overseeing the intermediate care unit patients as consulting provider during daytime shifts.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing (Acute Care Certification) or Physician Assistant Studies
  • 1 – 2 years’ experience in the NeuroICU as a PA or ACNP
  • Experience as an RN in the NeuroICU (Highly preferred but not required)

General Summary:

The ARNP or PA-C, under the supervision of the Physician(s), who acts as the collaborative practitioner(s), is responsible for:

• Performs physical examinations of patients; evaluation and treatment of adult thoracic surgery patients in the clinic and hospital setting for pre and post-operative patients

• Conditions treated and post-op care include but not limited to: Robotic Surgery for the Lungs and Chest, Minimally invasive treatment for Early Stage Lung Cancer, Experienced Surgical Treatment for Advanced Lung Cancer, Multimodality treatment for Advanced Lung Cancer, Lung Cancer, Surgical intervention and therapies for Esophageal conditions

• Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests, such as laboratory, X-ray, etc.

• Assist Physician with hospital procedures as needed

• Assist patient and family with pre- and post-operative education

• Assist with the establishment of an adult congenital heart clinic/program

• Monitors the patient’s course of treatment and makes appropriate referral to either a physician or specialist, as needed

• Collaborates with physician and staff as necessary to provide consistent care to patients and support to staff

• Displays a caring and professional attitude at all time as well as maintaining personal and professional growth

• Schedule will consist of weekly rotations covering inpatient rounding, consults and follow up of thoracic surgical patients.

• Schedule is Monday – Friday, alternating weekends & call responsibilities.
