Join a growing, multidisciplinary neuroscience program

AdventHealth is seeking a full-time, fellowship-trained Movement Disorders Neurologist to join an established and growing program. The physician will provide comprehensive adult movement disorders care and support multidisciplinary care, education, outreach, and program growth.

Position: Movement Disorders Neurologist
FTE: 1.0 FTE, full-time
Training: Movement Disorders fellowship required
Certification: Board certified or board eligible in Neurology
Practice focus: Comprehensive adult movement disorders care

The Movement Disorders Program

The division includes three Movement Disorders Neurologists, an advanced practice provider, functional neurosurgeon, Movement Disorders nurse, DBS nurse navigator, social work, nutrition, and genetic counseling.

  • Huntington’s Disease Center of Excellence with a monthly multidisciplinary clinic.
  • Parkinson’s disease and tremor clinic with rehabilitation, social work, nutrition, and genetics support.
  • Partnerships with Geriatric Psychiatry, Geriatrics, Behavioral Neurology, and counseling services.
  • Advanced therapy evaluation and care, including DBS and functional neurosurgery.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia, Huntington’s disease, ataxia, chorea, tic disorders, atypical parkinsonism, gait disorders, functional movement disorders, and related conditions.
  • Perform neurologic examinations, interpret diagnostic studies, manage medications, and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Perform procedures within training and privileges, including botulinum toxin injections.
  • Coordinate advanced therapies with neurosurgery and related specialty teams.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary clinics, case conferences, care coordination, and quality improvement.
  • Educate neurology residents, medical students, and other learners, with potential future participation in a Movement Disorders fellowship.

Department and Academic Environment

The Neurology Department includes general and specialty neurologists, a Level 4 Epilepsy Center, and Neuromuscular Neurology, Headache, and Behavioral Neurology programs. It sponsors a Neurology Residency Program and offers opportunities to teach residents and help shape future Movement Disorders fellowship training.

General Summary:

  • Performing physical examinations of patients; evaluation and treatment of injuries or illness of patients with GI related conditions in the inpatient and outpatient setting - new patient consults, follow ups, pre/post procedural follow up, patient education
  • Treating patients with various conditions related to the full scope of the digestive system, liver functions and esophagus including but not limited to: Barrett’s Esophagus, Colorectal Cancer Screening, Colonoscopy, Capsule Endoscopy, ERCP, GERD, IDB, Crohn’s, Ulcerative Colitis, Liver Disease, Upper GI Disorders
  • AdventHealth Minneola and Winter Garden hospitals will be the primary hospitals covered

AdventHealth Cardiovascular Institute is the number one heart transplant group in the Southeast performing more transplants per year than any other transplant center in the Southeast with patient survival rates over 82% after 3 years. We have expanded our 8 bed ECMO unit to a 32 bed ECMO unit at the beginning of this year. We are looking for PA’s and APRN’s who enjoy a challenge and have a passion for medical devices and complex patients to join our growing team. The APP would serve our patients by providing direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients with cardiac or multi-system failure.

Duties and Responsibilities: The APP would be expected to complete the following under physician direction and within the credentialing standards of the Hospital:

  • Assess patients for changes in condition and institutes appropriate interventions, including initiation of necessary emergency care.
  • Procedures performed but not limited to: Chest Tubes, arterial catheters, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, temporary pacemakers, airway management, and defibrillation
  • Participates and assists with the pre-, peri-, and postoperative management of the cardiac transplant, VAD, MCS, and ECMO patients
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.

Schedule Details:

  • The shifts will include days, nights, two weekends per month and holiday rotation.
    • Option for full nights available
  •  Hours are either 5 AM – 5 PM (Day), or 5 PM to 5 AM (night)
  • 14 (12-hour) shifts required per month

Experience and Requirements:

  • Experience as an APRN or PA in Cardiovascular Critical Care,
  • Experience with transplant patients, L-VAD, Circulatory Assist Device, CABG’s (highly preferred)

  • First Assisting Vascular Surgeon in operating room, including suturing, drain placement, etc according to privileges
  • Performing hospital rounding, physical examinations of Peripheral and Vascular Surgery patients in the inpatient setting including, but not limited to: new patient consults, pre and post-operative visits, follow up visits – could evolve to an outpatient setting as well
  • Procedures expected to perform: THDC removal, drain removals, and stitch removals
  • Patient Education on the following conditions but not limited to: Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, arterial reconstruction, Carotid Artery Disease, Endovascular Surgery, Open Surgery etc, venous insufficiency and associated procedures.
  • Performs diagnostic procedures according to privileges and maintains log
  • Enables continuity of care by managing patient care in the inpatient setting
