AdventHealth Neuroscience Institute and AdventHealth Medical Group are seeking a fellowship trained Behavioral Neurologist for our expanding program in Central Florida. We are open to training backgrounds in the following: Neurology residency with fellowship training in Behavioral Neurology; Geriatric psychiatry with expertise in Alzheimer's Disease; or finally Psychiatry residency with fellowship training in Behavioral Neurology.  New physician would join with our existing team of neurologists and lead Behavioral Neurology care at our Orlando outpatient clinic. 

The medical director will work to achieve top quartile performance in the care of patients with cognitive and behavioral disease, such as Alzheimer’s and Dementia.  They will participate/lead innovative research that is publishable, design business models that combine both evidence-based medicine and patient care pathways that support efficient flow, reduction in costs and excellent patient outcomes. The Medical Director is responsible for providing direction for the development and clinical performance of the Behavioral Neurology Program with areas of focus in: Program Building; Clinical Quality and Performance Improvement; and Innovation, Teaching and Research.

AdventHealth is looking for a dynamic, caring, and energetic neurologist with fellowship training in neuromuscular diseases and EMGs to help continue to grow our expanding program in Central Florida.  We designated as Muscle dystrophy and ALS care centers. We are growing into one comprehensive team that will focus this outpatient program around our ten hospitals system in our Central Florida Division totaling over 3,000 beds.  The new physician would join with our existing team of neurology subspecialty leaders in Neuromuscular, Headache, Neuroimmunology, and Movement Disorders as well as our general neurologists. 

Our Neuro Critical Care Fellowship was accredited by the UCNS in early 2019.  Our Neuroscience Institute at AdventHealth Orlando consists of 120 dedicated neurology beds which includes 40 neuro-intensive care units, 8 dedicated neurosurgical OR suites with an intraoperative 3T MRI and 64 slice CT, FDG-PET, SPECT, and MEG lab.  AdventHealth Orlando has been awarded the highest designation, a Level 4 Epilepsy Center, by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC).  Our Neuroscience program has been ranked 30th among other best programs nationally.

AdventHealth also has an advanced comprehensive stroke center providing endovascular procedures 24/7. Our neurosurgery program performed more craniotomy and spine surgery than any other hospitals in Florida. Our minimally invasive brain surgery program is one of the best in the state and draws patients nationally and internationally.  We also have a fully developed DBS program.    

Requirements:

AdventHealth Cardiovascular Institute is the number one heart transplant group in the Southeast performing more transplants per year than any other transplant center in the Southeast with patient survival rates over 82% after 3 years. We have expanded our 8 bed ECMO unit to a 32 bed ECMO unit at the beginning of this year. We are looking for PA’s and APRN’s who enjoy a challenge and have a passion for medical devices and complex patients to join our growing team. The APP would serve our patients by providing direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients with cardiac or multi-system failure.

Duties and Responsibilities: The APP would be expected to complete the following under physician direction and within the credentialing standards of the Hospital:

  • Assess patients for changes in condition and institutes appropriate interventions, including initiation of necessary emergency care.
  • Procedures performed but not limited to: Chest Tubes, arterial catheters, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, temporary pacemakers, airway management, and defibrillation
  • Participates and assists with the pre-, peri-, and postoperative management of the cardiac transplant, VAD, MCS, and ECMO patients
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.

Schedule Details:

  • Shift coverage is for nights, which also includes weekends and holiday rotation.
  • 5 PM to 5 AM (night)
  • 14 (12-hour) shifts required per month

Experience and Requirements:

  • Experience as an APRN or PA in Critical Care, that are willing to learn CV side
  • Experience with transplant patients, L-VAD, Circulatory Assist Device, CABG’s (highly preferred)
  • Experience in CICU or CVICU as an RN (highly preferred)
  • ECMO experience (highly preferred)
  • Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies or Nursing with Acute Care Certification (Required)
  • Board Certification through NCCPA, ANCC or AACN
  • BLS, ACLS, CALS, FCCS, certifications or eligible

General Summary:

The APP, under the supervision of the Physicians is responsible for:

  • APP would see patients in the clinic, including new patients, post-op, routine follow-up.
  • Performs patient histories and physical exams in the office and hospital setting.
  • Telehealth visits
  • Meets the specific needs of the attending surgeon, often assisting several surgeons in a single practice.
  • Ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic tests, such as labs and imaging.
  • Monitoring the patient’s course of treatment and making appropriate referrals to other specialists, as needed
  • First assist with surgeries such as Sleeve Gastrectomy, Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass and bariatric surgery revisions
  • Collaborating with physician supervisor to provide consistent care to patients and support to staff.

  • Post-op- Writes orders in the recovery room, talks with family, visits patients perform post op procedures and more.

  • Monitors the patient’s course of treatment and makes appropriate referral to either a physician or specialist, as needed
  • Collaborates with physician and staff as necessary to provide consistent care to patients and support to staff
