AdventhHealth Medical Group is searching for a dynamic, hard-working, board certified APRN with experience in the rehab setting in the following specialties:  Transplant, Stroke, Neurology and orthopaedics. 
This position would reflect a hospitalist/inpatient practice model.
The APRN would help cover our CARF accredited, units (currently 30 beds) at Florida Hospital Orlando and Winter Park Memorial Hospital.  In late 2019, we will move to a brand new, dedicated unit at Winter Park Memorial Hospital, with eventual capacity of 60 beds. 
Our units currently hold specialty certifications in Stroke and Brain Injury. The new APRN would work alongside other physicians as we expand our team even further in the upcoming years.  Patient mix includes majority of cases in stroke and brain injury as well as some ortho and spinal cord injuries.
The APRN will work with our existing, highly experienced physiatrists and a terrific support team of neuropsychologists, therapists, skilled nurses, dietitians. A full range of medical and surgical specialists also provide care for our patients on this unit. The new APRN would also share in acute care consults with our other PM&R physicians during the day in addition to coverage in the rehabilitation units.

The APRN will:

  • Manage follow up visits for patients already admitted to the rehab facility on specific days
  • Other days of the week will be spent in collaboration with the physician taking new/follow up consults for patients in the hospital setting. 
  • When covering the rehab the primary campus would be at AdventHealth Winter Park
  • When on the consulting service the primary campus would be AdventHealth Orlando, however there may be an infrequent need to see a patient at a different campus

The Schedule will be a rotating day shift model between 2 APP’s.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in Physical Medicine and/or Rehab

Required Education:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing (APRN)

Licensure, Certification, and Registration:

  • Current, valid Florida APRN license
  • Certification by ANCC or other nationally recognized certification organization

SUMMARY:   Serves as a member of the cardiovascular critical care team by assisting in management of critically ill patients in the hospital.  Applies specialized skills and knowledge related to CCU and CVICU settings in which they practice.  Contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, consulting and provides leadership to the organization. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients with cardiac or multi-system failure, within institutional guidelines and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards under the supervision of the patient’s physician.
  • Obtains patient health histories and complete physical examinations and documents findings in accordance with hospital requirements.
  • Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, explaining the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, patient's family, staff and healthcare learners.
  • Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation and external cardiac massage; airway management including bag and mask ventilation, endotracheal intubation and extubation, repositioning endotracheal tubes; directing administration of life supporting drugs according to established protocols; and defibrillation according to Advanced Cardiac Life Support standards.
  • Under physician direction and within the credentialing standards of the Hospital, inserts and manages arterial catheters, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, temporary pacemakers, and other procedures commensurate with an ICU environment.
  • Interfaces patients with monitoring and instrumentation equipment, and directs and educates others in performing the same functions.
  • Formulates and implements a treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the designated primary supervising physician and/or attending back-up physician(s) and documents in medical records and appropriate narrative summaries.
  • Assesses patients for changes in status and institutes appropriate interventions, including initiation of necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient.
  • Provides family-centered care by communicating with the family regarding the changing health care needs of their family member.
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice.
  • Participates and assists with the pre-, peri-, and postoperative management of the cardiac transplant, ventricular assist device, and ECMO patient in the OR and ICU’s.
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.

Qualifications:

  • Board Certification as Physician Assistant;
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certificate.
  • Required: 1-2 years’ experience as a PA-C in one of the following: Cardiac Surgery, Cardiac ICU or Cardiovascular ICU
